Its a very sweet romantic movie....Zoe (Jennifer Lopez) realizes one day that she is 30 and single..she never imagined that it was going to be like that...she like all other girls, had visualized herself, happily married and having or planning to have kids by the time she was 30...thats when she decides that its the time for the BACKUP PLAN..lack of a boyfriend/ husband wasn't going to deter her from having children of her own, a family of her own...she goes to a gynaec and gets artificially inseminated....

As fate would have it, soon after she gets inseminated she meets Stan (Alex O'Loughlin), like every love story, they rub each other the wrong way the first time they meet....and coincidental second and third meet leads to Stan asking her out....it is a very routine love story except for the fact that Zoe is pregnant!!

It shows very nicely, how she tells him....his initial outrage at not knowing earlier....but then realizing that he wants Zoe in his life no matter what, and that he is ready to take the step of not only dating a girl but planning a future and raising a family....

Its a very cute movie...well paced...U wont get bored..it has very cute and funny scenes....Alex O'Loughlin is adorable, n J Lo is good too...You should watch it, if u want to have some relaxation and a few laughs...you will end with a very warm nice feeling within you at the end of the movie...

A Beautiful Mind

This one is one of my all time favourite movies...it is adapted from biography of John Nash, a mathematician n economist, who won nobel for his work....I wont tell u anything about the plot, coz that will ruin the movie for u...all i ll say its, its an inspiring movie....where we see an individual triumph against all odds by the strength of his determination alone....excellent acting by russell crowe in the main lead, and he is well supported by jennifer connelly who plays part of his wife....the movie is very well directed, edited, paced...It is one of the all time classic movies, which will always leave u speechless about the ingenuity of the human mind.....we realize what we are capable of, everyone of us, if u decide to persue our goal...
totally worth a watch any number of times...u ll never get tired of watching this movie...

Manorama Six Feet Under

if u like murder mysteries...this is your movie...inspired by chinatown (1974) it is a very well written, directed, acted,edited, n shot.....totally loved this movie..the length of this movie 2 hr n 15 min is just right...during the middle point of the movie u might get little lost....you might wonder whats happening, or where is it leading....but just be patient when u feel the movie lacks pace....coz the lack of pace is the beauty of this movie...n just enjoy what is going on in the screen in front of you, rather than racking your brain, with what happens next, or who killed the lady....n ull be pleased at the end...u ll be smiling i guarantee
   the movie is set in a small city of rajasthan, lakhot near jaipur...the pace of life there itself is slow...n hence the movie....the movie shows very nicely how a middle class couple in a small town live their life....where once you nurtured a dream of making it big....and when you realize you have not made it big...your chance is gone...n u almost stuck in the place you are, and there isn't anything much you can do about it....it tells a story of a couple who had an arranged marriage, n so even though they do love each other and stand by each other when needed, they don't hesitate to compare their partner with the other probable partners, and wonder how different their life wud if they had chosen someone else.....
   the cast is superb, abhay deol comes out as a versatile actor who doesn't need to do the run of the mill stories n roles to make a name in the industry....gul panag, vinay pathak, sarika, raima sen all have done justice to their role...
   love the truth alone triumphs theme of the movie...n the subtle sequences, like the guy in the taxi....or the dialogues "zara si saavdhani, zindagi bhar aasani"....the references might seem out of place, but if u take a closer look, u ll notice its connection with the situation in the movie or something....
   watch the movie..if u have a mind for a murder mystery with a twist...

Karthik calling Karthik

This movie talks about a very average guy karthik ( guess the director wanted to break out of rahul, raj image) so this guy is an invisible guy (not in actual sense of word)...just that no one will ever notice him...until one day he gets this call from another person who calls himself karthik and changes his life....
this movie is a suspense movie so am not gonna talk much about the plot....it definitely is interesting first watch....good direction by vijay lalvani....farhan akhtar is as good as u expect him to be....deepika adds charm of her own to the movie....the songs r wonderful...simply loved all the songs....full marks to shankar ehsaan loy for all the numbers.....i liked the movie coz it does make u sit upright, feel the horror n u wait to know the suspense....the movie is very well presented, romantic scenes are cute, will surely make u smile....
all in all its different than the routine run of the mill stories....

This time around karan johar has tried to make a movie with a message rather than the usual love story or the family drama we normally expect from him...
He does deliver two messages that, not all muslims in the world are terrorists...and that good people are good and bad people are bad irrespective of their religions....
the messages are great in their simplicity...and it would have turned out to be a great movie if the movie was kept simple, erasing the complicated and unnecessary subplots and twists...
i loved the character of Rizwan khan, an autistic guy with asperger's syndrome (and shahrukh khan does the role well...some say it is one of his best performances..am not sure of it though..i have liked him in lot of other movies to be biased for this particular role)..and i actually had goosebumps when rizwan says it for the first time "my name is khan and i am not a terrorist".The simplicity of the character...the "ability to repair almost anything"...the way he courts mandira.....his honesty as a salesman of herbal beauty products..his ability to memorize everything.....the guy is just great...the simplicity of the way he lives touches us to the core...
But as I said, the subplots and twists and the repetition of the two messages over and over again, takes away the charm of the movie..
the movie centers around how muslims are viewed in USA pre and post 9/11....and how the selfless love of one man overcomes hurdles that come up....somehow I didnt like anything in the movie except the character of Rizwan khan, that i dont know what more to write about...
Somehow I feel that the movie lets us down...we go to the theaters with so many expectations and the movie fails to live upto those...am glad KJo ventured into a different territory and tried to make a movie thats different than the previous ones....
I just feel bad that a movie that could have turned out to be one of its kind and an all time classic fails to hit the mark!
watch it if u r a big time shahrukh fan and if u dont ever miss any of his movies..

Couples Retreat..

story of 4 couples...who are friends and go for a one week vacation to some resort to have some fun and end up learning more about their relationship with their partners...
   Jason and cynthia are having some problem in their marriage and they wish to work it out by going to this resort which has counselling sessions along with all the fun...but they cant afford it by themselves, so they request their friends to come along...initially they are skeptical about taking a sudden trip abroad but they are convinced by their...
   the film gets funny when all the couples are forced to take on couple'e therapy as thats the part of the package they unknowingly signed up for...as the therapy sessions continue..the couples discover whats their marriage about...good and bad..and they discuss with their friends and get to learn what are the other peoples' perspective about them and their partner...
  its a funny movie but does get little slow in between...some comedy scenes are cute...but a lot appear forced..

the characters of all the 4 couples were well etched...
jason and cynthia : apparently perfect couple with perfect exterior but lots of flaws within..
dave and ronnie : again a happy couple with two kids, but who are stuck in mundane daily life and have no time for themselves as a couple.
joey and lucy : high school sweethearts who got married right after high school as lucy got pregnant, they feel they never got a chance to enjoy life and are stuck in their marriage
sam and trudy / jennifer : recently divorced with jennifer, sam thinks he has fallen in love with trudy who is 20 yr old girl...

watch it if u have seen all the other movies u wanted to watch...

fun movie to watch with an underlying messages " Follow your dreams" and " try to achieve excellence and success will follow" AAL IZZ WELL
very well written, directed acted etc etc...
my only problem was i liked the book 5 point someone better!
the movie is unique no doubt....but it lets the book down.....the characters are similar (you do see flashes of hari, alok and ryan in farhan, raju and rancho respectively) but the story is lost...the movie is lot different than the book....so dont compare the two.
If we just see the movie without any expectations you ll like it and enjoy it better...
music in this movie is definitely the highlight.....and it showcases the stress in current youth very well...so almost everyone can connect with the movie...pace of the movie is good..
this movie will make you laugh, and make u think...and it will be an evening well spent..

PS : i do wish someone makes the movie on 5 point someone as it is...keeping the plot intact...that wud be a treat too.......the ideas in the book were truly innovative..loved ryans C2D (co operate to dominate plan )

A Walk to Remember

This movie is based on book by Nicholas Sparks by the same name..

i have not read the book, so i dont know how well it is adapted to the book or which is better book or movie..

As far as the movie goes, its a cute and sweet love story which wil surely make u smile :)

The plot is not that uncommon or unpredictable...but the presentation is beautiful...the way the love story of the lead pair develops is lovely....i just loved it :)

well about the plot : as i said its not very uncommon...cool dude rebellious guy landon carter(shane west) falls is some trouble while playing a practical joke on a classmate....in order that he mends his ways the principle makes him do activities like mentoring students, taking part in play etc etc..things he would not have done ever on his own...but all these activities put him in company of jamie sullivan (many moore), plain jane, simple, sweet girl but with a head of her own and who doesnt care what others think of her...

as they spend time together, they develop good friendship and inpite of initial embarrasement landon has abt acknowledging his friendship with jamie, they become good friends after landon takes jamie's side after a practical joke played on her by his other cool friends...

the way their relationship develops is to be seen...i wont be writing about it and about the end on the blog...

well if u see this movie, u ll guess the end quite soon (at least i did!) but stick on....its worth it..

direction by jim bosgraaf is good...the flow of story is nice, u dont feel bored or find lack of pace...

the lead pair is good.....landon -jamie moments r very very cute....they ll surely make u smile....they have good chemistry, shane west makes a very likable rebellious guy and mandy moore is very sweeet

a nice way to spend an evening if watching a movie is what u wanna do....u ll be smiling at the end of the movie :) :)

I so love this book Frances Hodgson Burnett by that wen i saw the movie on youtube movies i jus had to see it!!!!!!! i owe big time to rehana for giving me this book to read.....the movie i saw was made in 1939 starring shirley temple as the little princess..

directed by Walter Lang..

The movie is about this little girl sarah crewe (shirley temple) who is put up at a boarding school by her father Captain crewe when he has to go to south africa to fight in a war.

the story is about how sweet the little girl is and does not leave her hope, strength,and dignity even under the worst circumstances....she sure is mischeivous, naughty and imaginative...i love the character of sarah crewe.....but what is the highlight of the movie is the HOPE in the little girl.....and the fact that she never complains about anything, tries to be happy in adverse cirsumstance..she is jus too sweet!!!!!!!!

sure its a predictable story!!!!! but it is so well presented...and so well described in the book and well enacted in the movie.....that touches our heart and the predictablity of the movie just does not make a difference....

the hope in the child makes us hope too for a better tomorrow no matter what goes thru today...watch this movie anytime (m yet to see the 1917,1986 and 1995 version)...and u ll be smiling at the end of 90 min!!!!!

Serendipity

serendity means windfall or accidental good luck...
In this movie Sara thomas (kate beckinsale) is a hard core believer of fate and destiny...when she meets Jonathan Trager (john cusack) while shopping for a christmas gift and ends up spending an evening with him (inspite of the fact that both of them are in relationship with other people), she decides to let fate decide if their mutual attraction would turn into something more or not.

so she asks him to write his phone no on a 5 $ bill and writes hers on a used copy of book LOVE IN TIME OF CHOLERA.She tells him if they are meant to be together either one of them at least will come across other persons phone no.

5 yrs later they both are set to marry different people, but they both cant forget that one evening spent on streets on Manhattan....so they both decide to look out for each other once again...
whats follows is a hilarious series of events and coincidences where they just miss each other or where something abstract leads one to another, and ultimately.................no prizes for guessing the end :)

its a typical hindi movie types....very predictable....good acting though by john cuzack and kate beckinsale...even though u know whats gonna happen you root out for both of them :)

story flows well...and u look forward to how the two lead characters are gonna meet up :)
its a cute and sweet romantic movie which is fun to watch....

this movie is a story of two petty thieves sachin (kunal khemu) and zarra mud (cyrus broacha)...sachin wants to do something big once and for all, so that he can stop stealing and open a nice coffee shop....

their run ins with fate...how they are forced to work for a bookie cum hooligan AGM (mahesh manjrekar)....

the story turns funny when sachin and zarra mud are asked by AGM to retrive money from rahul (boman irani) who has lost 20 lakhs in match betting...

during the first 45 min u might wonder what exactly is goin on....and where is the movie leading...but after that everything starts falling into place..
also seen in movie are : pooja (soha ali khan), vinod khanna.

good points:
good acting by entire cast.....nice comedy....funny dialogues...
the story is set in the yr 1999-2000.....so the movie takes us back a decade in a nice way....small details r taken care of like....really old model mobile handsets...posters of movies released in 1999......

a very enjoyable movie....you ll get your money's worth..

MUMBAI MERI JAAN........A WEDNESDAY

anything i say about both this movies is going to fall short of how good they are....
so i ll do the best i can do.....i wont say anything at all :)

both these movies are very apt for todays times....as they deal with effects of terrorism....how the terrorism has affected human lives today....all of us can identify with these people and their feelings....

kudos to both the directors for coming up with the idea.....neeraj pandey for " a wednesday" and nishikant kamat for "mumbai meri jaan"

please dont think that these movies r similar....sure they deal with aftermath of mumbai train blasts....but thats where the similarity ends....
MUMBAI MERI JAAN deals with stories of 6 people affected in blasts...
soha ali khan who is a tv news reporter...and whose fiance dies in the blast....
r madhvan....a survivor of the blast...
paresh rawal....a cop in the city...
kay kay menon......a hindu guy who thinks all muslims are bad
irfan khan...a common man who suffers coz he is at wrong place at wrong time....

amongst all the stories what is highlighted is the NEVER SAY DIE attitude of spirit of mumbai...
but i guess it could be said of any city in world...i would like to say it talks about NEVER SAY DIE attitude of we human beings....
on the other hand A WEDNESDAY deals with a story of one day....wont elborate more on it as it will spoil the charm of the movie....
cast of wednesday is : naseeruddin shah ,anupam kher,jimmy shergill,aamir bashir,deepal shaw
great acting by all of them

all in all great direction....wonderful editing....nice dialogues....good message in both these movies....
both of them a must watch

This is a story of 4 friends :

Adi - the singer (farhan akhtar) , joe - the guitar player (arjun rampal), rob- the keyboard player (luke Kenny) ,kd -the drummer (purab kohli)

They share their love for music…..they are members of a band MAGIK….they are each others best friends ….they love each other…and they share a common dream of making it big as a rock band…..

Alls well till they face the music of life….as their dream is about to become a reality , disaster strikes and in a moment of fury all is lost and they go their separate ways…….

Their life after the band disbands turns pathetic….

For adi it is difficult to keep in touch with anything and anybody that reminds him of his shattered dream…so he keeps away from his group and music and leads a mechanical life earning good money as investment banker……he cant even talk about his past with his loving sweet wife sakshi (prachi desai) who keeps wondering what she should do to make him smile….

Kd the goofy drummer who keeps the moment light with his humour misses his friends but the work load of his jewellery business keep him from meeting his friends regularly..

Joe he teaches guitar to young children…he plays guitar at some parties that barely keep food in his home as his wife Debbie (shahana goswami) manages his family run fish business and keeps things going in their home…

Rob who is assistant composer to anu malik is dissatisfied with his job but he does not what to do and he has his share of load to deal with….

Events take a turn as sakshi accidently finds out about the band and happens to meet Kd at the jewellery store….she plans a surprise reunion for adi….Kd and rob are more than happy to meet up but not adi and joe…they still have their demons to deal with….but after initial aloofness adi and joe too realize they should get back together….and that’s when the movie turns and things are looking good when of course disaster strikes again…..but this time it binds them together rather than take them apart…..

Good points:
Excellent acting by all the guys and they are well supported by the girls…..also to be mentioned are koel puri as devika and nicollete bird as Tanya do a good job of the roles given to them…

Great direction by abhishek kapoor in his debut movie…..the presentation is superb….the blending of past and present is wonderfully done…crisp editing by deepa bhatia ….not even one scene is out of place or not taking the story forward

Music by Shankar ehsaan loy is lively and foot tapping….lyrics by javed akhtar is exceptional esp the song socho to and tum ho toh…..singing by farhan akhtar is a wonderful surprise package….dialogues by farhan akhtar are good….

Nice touches like the band playing in garba to raise money for their group….makes us laugh spontaneously….

All in all wonderful feel good movie…….i know its being said everywhere but still I ll say “ROCK ON!!! ROCKS” …great going abhishek kapoor

jaane tu.... ya jaane na

after almost all my friends and family saw this movie and recommended it as a must watch i went to see this movie....and it lived upto or should i say exceeded my expectations......

firstly want to congratulate mr abbas tyrewala for making such a lively movie as a first time director…for treating the movie so well…right from the credits till the last scene of movie

wont dwell too much into the plot of the movie.........as basically this movie does not have any....this is a movie which has excerpts of memory......of incidences.......the memory here is of a bunch of six friends but if we go to see it cud be a memory of any group of friends who sit down and go for a jog down the memory lane........abt those wonderful college days wen all we friends r inseparable....i guess all of us have some group or the other....and all of us surely miss those days where we wud do things jus for the heck of it.....well i am getting diverted here...some of the last couple of sentences belong to the main blog and not to the movie review ,but i guess this is what the movie does to u it takes u back in time...similar to a hangover u cud say.....

well i cud say the story is abt two inseparable best friends jai alias rats (imran khan) and aditi alias meow (genelia d’souza) who initially dont realize they r meant for each other till jai gets a girlfriend and aditi starts feeling neglected , she retaliates by getting engaged and jai feels jealous seeing aditi with someone else….…and they finally realize they r made for each other......but i wud be very unfair if i summarized the entire movie in mere two sentences....

as i said earlier ,the movie belongs to the whole group of friends not just the lead pair….what I liked abt this movie is that even the smallest of roles is well defined…..nobody is there in a movie without reason…no scene or song is extra in the movie…

Bonuses :
Naseeruddin shah as a dead talking husband is too good…..u wait for him to show up in the movie

All the supporting actors r wonderful…

Amit :prateik babbar (aditi’sbrother) , paresh rawal :inspector waghmare and everyone else too…..

The whole concept of ranjhaur ka rathore (the family jai belongs to) is hilarious and the need to fulfill the 3 duties namely ride a horse…beat someone up…and go to jail at least once

Might sound stupid now…but in movie doesn’t sound dumb…..

The two hooligans (arbaaz and sohail khan) on horses…..

Comedy is good ,very natural….its very well blended into the movie not just some sequences…

Loved the way everything fits in the end…all loose ends r tied up in a very natural way…without it seeming very difficult

The movie is made very innovatively with some plots which r not a major part of story woven very well into the story to make it different from routine story…

No cheap jokes or dialogues…..

The songs r lovely especially “aditi” and “nazrein churana”(the picnic song)….lyrics r lovely and so is the music by a r rahman….

I wished :

There wud be some more interaction between aditi and amit…and what happens to him finally wud have been shown….i felt his was a very interesting character and wanted to see more of him than what was shown……

I loved the movie….watch it without fail…….great going mr tyrewala looking forward to many movies from u…and thank u aamir khan for producing this movie wen it ran into some financial crises…….

well made it a point to see this movie coz i just cud not miss not watching a patrick dempsey movie...though once the movie began i did begin to wonder why the hell he took up this movie....the story is absolutely routine (best friends not realizing they r made for each other till the girl decides to marry.....and the guy breaks the marriage in the last min while the girl is at the altar preparing to say I DO...only difference is here the girl asks the guy to be her maid of honour) , with nothing great in the way its presented...i mean if it was treated well ,the movie cud have been much better.....

bad points :
none of the relationships have been elaborated upon......they jus show how tom (dempsey) and hannah (michelle monaghan) became best friends...but how the relationship developed is not shown....and why, i mean out of so many friends they both might have whats special between them that they r best friends....

also the relationship between hannah and colin mcmurray (kevin mckidd)....how they got involved etc etc isn't shown......

how tom tries to break the wedding isn't shown......i mean he doesn't do anything to actually break the wedding.....he just keeps on saying he wants to break the wedding over and over again

tom's dislike for colin is not shown...
basically none of the emotion or anything is shown well.......everything is touched upon superficially....

direction by paul weiland is bad

the story has its predictable twists and turns......and very predictable misunderstanding...and a very predictable ending

good points:
none that i can think of...............lemme try.......hmmm.......some of the wedding traditions in scotland r funny......dont know if they actually exist or mr.weiland came up with them....

watch it only if u like seeing PATRICK DEMPSEY'S FACE..........

thats what most of us need in our hectic life...thoda pyaar and thoda magic :)

i had decided i am gonna see this movie when i saw the trailer the first time....i was not going to let any critics' any review change my thoughts....so inspite of mayank shekhar's bad comments i went for the movie as mithu was home and mom was up for it too......

the movie begins with story of little boy ranbir (who grows up to be saif) who tragically loses everyone he loves and cares about......first his best friend....then his mother...he is sent to hostel....where he is loner as he is very reserved and doesnt make friends easily...other boys misunderstand him and make fun of him,mock at him ,rebuke him.....this makes him more antagonistic towards them....then steps in a teacher who acts as his guide, helps him study.....but soon the teacher retires.......and the boy is alone again....but now he has his books with him....he becomes the best student but a loner......comes first in every exam and grows up to be a very successful entrepreneur........but even now he is a loner...never lets anyone come near his heart...he has learnt to live without love...

one day when he is driving he meets with an accident and the people in the other car are killed....as a punishment the judge rules that the 4 children of the couple will live with him..that he has to look after the well being of the children till the youngest turns 18....he cant put the kids in boarding school.....and he cant leave the city without them.....and if does not abide by this he wud be put behind the bars for 20 yrs....

now ranbir has no choice but to get these children in the house......he tries to be nice to them but they hate him as they see him as their parents' murderer and want to take revenge on him ie send him to prison......so their sole aim is to see that they play pranks on him and make him so angry that ranbir is forced to ill treat them and then he will have to go behind bars...

ranbir tries to keep his cool initially but as the children are not willing to take even one step forward to accept his friendship he soon gets fed up with them...and they all r sad....
and the kids pray to god (rishi kapoor) to take them out of this miserable situation...
as a result god sends his chirpy, bubbly ,happy go lucky angel geeta (rani mukherji) to resolve dispute within them and make them into one family...

geeta understands the difficult position ranbir is in as he feels guilty for orphaning the children and he understands what they r goin thru as he himself was an orphan....and he feels bad all the time for being the cause of it...she also understands the pain of all four kids ranging from 5 to 9 yrs of age and their various emotions....but she does manahe to convince them that ranbir too is not totally at fault and to forgive him and that he has their best interests at heart

so geeta with her thoda pyaar and thoda magic manages to unite all of them.....

good points :
saif and rani both have acted their parts well......

the kids :vashisht -akshat chopra
iqbal -rachit sidana
aditi - shriya sharma
avantika - ayushi berman too have acted well.......ayushi is jus too cute in the movie

the way geeta makes opportunties for ranbir to win over the children is nice...

the computerized magic effects r nice...
the songs r ok.....we expect better when music is by shankar ehsaan loy and lyrics is by prasoon joshi......only nihaal ho gayi is really nice song.....
comedy is nice......

one thing which i really liked in the movie..one dialogue that ranbirs tells aditi...winning is important true but more important are the people clapping for ur success...and if u look down from dias and see no one clapping for u ,u r not successful...so wen at times u dont win be sure to clap for ur friend who has won...like that u ll be a part of his victory and celebrations

bad points :
direction by kunal kohli is ok (dont know if i am biased...coz i have not really liked any of his previous movies very much)
the fact that even though geeta is performing magic left right and center no body questions her or asks for an explanation cant be digested
ameesha patel role as ranbir's girlfriend malaika could have been better defined......she should have been a bit more mature role as its difficult to imagine a guy like ranbir liking a girl like (no brains type) malaika...

costumes by manish malhotra r bad.....esp of ameesha patel...did u run out of idea or didnt mr kohli give u enough time for designing?????or u thought nobody wud notice her clothes....all her outfits r of one design only jus the colours r different..
also the concept of jus one outfit for rani seemed weird.....i mean if she had to look as human as possible she should be wearing different clothes daily na...or least she shd have been given a pair of clothes if mr kohli wanted to show her from poor background.......dont know what he was thinking when he came up with the idea of one outfit......

wud like to point to one thing i just didnt like and thought evrything was overboard abt it.........one incident shown in movie where as an attempt to jeopardize the deal ranbir is keen to make with an american guy ,its shown that the kids misbehave with the children of american guy...and that too in such a stupid way.. they pour water on their heads...make them wet ,then they roll the white kids in sand on the golf course....then vashisht makes the kid hold golf ball in his mouth and is abt to hit the ball with the golf stick when geeta sees him and stops him....but still which children around 8 to 10 yrs of age will allow themselves to be manhandled like that by kids of their own age i wud like to know for sure....and then they dont even apologize for it and wen the american guy shouts at them , ranbir comes with some crap that nobody talks with my kids like that.....totally misdirected scene..big blunder in the movie....after this incident its shown that kids reconcile with ranbir....maybe kunal kohli wanted to show to the kids in the movie that ranbir wud stick by them whatever they do......but it doesnt mean that ranbir does not make them understand when they r so wrong in their action...and after they had patched up it should have been shown that the kids apologize to the kids of the american guy and accept their mistake......

other than these minor hiccups it is an enjoyable movie....keep ur brains aside when u go for it.......kids will love the movie for all the magic shown.....watch it when u wanna spend a light hearted fun filled evening......u ll be smiling at the end of it :)

this movie is based on book by cecelia ahern...i have not read the book so m not sure which is better the book or the movie....but i sure loved the movie...i guess the book wud be interesting to read.......

well this is story is about holly kennedy (hilary swank) and her husband gerry kennedy (gerard butler)....when holly loses gerry to brain tumour she is devastated.....she becomes a recluse..does not want to meet anyone talk with anyone....its of course natural if your husband who u have been married to for nearly ten years dies and u r still short of ur 30th birthday......she loses interest in life....

till she gets a surprise b'day cake with a letter and cassette in gerry's voice saying how he has planned how she should get further in life..and that he wud guide her through this phase of life...and so she keeps getting letters addressed to her from unexpected places which guide her..as he knows her the best...he knows how she is gonna react to the situation...he makes her do stuff they did together like sing in bar.....go to ireland on vacation (where they had met first)
by making her do these things which r so difficult for her he purges himself out of her......he remains with her but as a fond memory but not as someone who holds her back in life....he helps her find direction in life.....

good points :
beautiful story......romance is beautifully shown.....
blending of past with current is done very well
acting by hilary swank and gerard butler is good...they r well supported by by lisa kudrow and kathy bates as friend and mother
direction by richard lagravenese is nice

bad points :
cant really think.....

its a feel good movie..some parts r really emotional......i had tears in my eyes at certain times...

after listening to great reviews and all the wonderful things abt the movie i decided to get the dvd of the movie...

well the story is of a young doctor aamir ali (rajeev khandelwal) who is returning to india after living and working in london for 3 yrs....its abt how he gets trapped by a fistful of people who r holding his family as hostage and make aamir to do certain terrorist activities...
how that group of people share a different view of current situation of muslims particularly in india....that they hold hindus responsible for the poor state of affairs of muslims in general..thats how they justify placing bombs in trains and buses etc etc...

and how a certain group of muslims like aamir believe that only factor stopping ones progress is self...if we work hard for anything we can achieve it....nothing can stop us...not our cirsumstances or environment or where we r born.....we have to make external factors conducive for our own growth with our hard work.......

he tries to convey these things to the people he is talking to..and they try to make him see the different world..where people live in impoverished condition....telling him how others r responsible for the sad state of the community in general...

good points :
acting by rajeev khandelwal as a troubled common man is brilliant.....simply superb....
its a short film...good editing...good cinematography i wondered how they must have shot in all the narrow lanes of mumbai
it shows both sides of story.....the simple hard working guy who achieves stuff in life...and the religious fanatics....
direction by raj kumar gupta is good.....

bad points:
i dont think that the plot is that realistic......i dont think they involve novice people to do stuff...it wud be too risky i think if anybody goofed up.......and why involve an outsider when u have so many people to do work in your network.....

anyways....watch it if u want a dose of reality.....its certainly is a different movie

this is a story of a lawyer major siddhant chaudhary (rahul bose) in army who is very cool about his job as he does not want to be in army at all as his father was in army and was killed and after his death became a hero......he still holds army responsible for taking his father away from him wen he was still a child and then celebrating his death......he is assigned a case of an army officer capt javed khan (deepak dobriyal) who has shot his superior and has accepted his guilt and is about to be sentenced......

even as he gets the case his friend major aakash kapoor(javed jaffery) prosecuting lawyer tells its an open and shut case..there is nothing to be done.......but when a reporter kavvya shastri(minisha lamba) in search of story stumbles across the case...and realizes that the siddhant defending javed does not even know the case properly takes the matter in her hands to teach sid a lesson.........

then sid is in a soup and so has to investigate the crime and the background without the help of javed as javed does not even talk with sid and tell him the true story....
sid along with kavvya investigate the background of the murdered officer and javed khan...
as they get deeper into the case they realize that its not a simple murder case and that it affects people namely brig .rudra pratap singh (kay kay menon) who r very influential and who wud go to any lengths to see that javed is sentenced....

it opens can of worms abt how some seniors in army act inhumanly.......how communal riots tear our country apart....and how we as responsible citizens of our country shd behave....

good points :
good acting by rahul bose javed jaffery minisha lamba and kay kay menon.... friendship between sid and aakash is shown beautifully... pace of movie is good.....good storyline...the way the case is solved by sid is shown well

bad points :
initially for some time u dont know whats happening and where the story is going.....but towards the middle of movie things start falling into place......

this movie makes u think......who is right..who is wrong.......can certain acts be justified........is it right to make others suffer fate similar to urs just coz u have suffered at the hands of others.....how do we put an end to all these inhuman acts.....are we overlooking things that are right in front of us...we all think differently....for each of us whats right is different but we have to realize that there are somethings that are right universally and somethings that r wrong univerally.....
watch this movie wen u ready to think.....good work mr samar khan...

U ME aur HUM

Despite the poor movie reviews I gathered courage and went to see this movie….i was not particularly enthusiastic to watch this movie for the simple reason that in reviews it was mentioned that this movie was a copy of THE NOTEBOOK & 50 FIRST DATES…I love both these movies…and THE NOTEBOOK is one of my all time favorite books too….

Well I can say I was in for a surprise…..at the end of it I actually liked this movie and enjoyed it….the only similarity it has with THE NOTEBOOK AND 50 FIRST DATES is that in these two movies too the story revolves around ALZEIMERS DISEASE….actually in 50 FIRST DATES its some other disorder…

So basically coming back to U ME AUR HUM…..

Good points :

love the tag line SOMETIMES THE GREATEST JOURNEY IS THE DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE

Acting by kajol and ajay devgan is nice especially in emotional sequences….

The title track is nice…..and jee le is nice….lyrics of both these songs r beautiful and so is music

Story moves ahead at a good pace….esp in second half…the romantic dialogues r beautiful

The friendship between ajay and his friends is nice to see……also the relationship between pia (kajol) and dr ajay (ajay devgan) is shown beautifully…chemistry between the lead pair is nice…romance is shown well …..practical difficulties and problems encountered with someone having alzeimer’s is shown well….some emotional scenes touch your heart….and your heart reaches out for dr.ajay as he faces problems due to pia’s illness….. The entire story is handled well

Bad points :

Some dialogues are cheap….some stupid comedy sequences are just not needed…editing in first half could have been better….the song dil dhakda hai and the Punjabi wedding song (I forgot the name) could have been cut….

Music by vishal bhardhwaj is overall average (not something extraordinary as wud be expected of him)

Direction is ok…..in the whole movie they have jus zoomed in on kajol and ajay devgans face so much so that they fill entire screen…that cud very well be avoided….unlike the book THE NOTEBOOK here it is shown that pia gets alzeimers wen she is 28…well this is a really really rare thing…..in the book she gets it in her late fifties…well ajay devgan has jus stretched his imagination…we cud call it creative freedom :)

Over all its an entertaining movie…..u ll be smiling at the end of it….watch it if u r a movie buff and have no plans for some Sunday afternoon

its a simple story..abt a simple girl named jane nicols (katherine heigl)..

its abt a sweet kind hearted helpful girl who cant say no to anyone or cant hurt anyone....not even her wile younger sister tess (malin ackerman) who makes jane's boss george (edward burns) fall in love with her by telling her lies abt herself...btw jane thinks she is in love with george...

also jane loves to organize weddings...so she ends up being bridesmaid to 27 times....always imagining how it will be wen she gets married...

at one of the weddings she meets this cynical guy kevin doyle (james marsden) who thinks little of weddings...thinks lot of money is unnecessarily wasted in weddings....which can be put to better use..

kevin is a wedding journalist for a newspaper..so when george is gonna marry tess..jane runs a lot into kevin....who sees her thru n realizes her feelings for george...simultaneously he is falling for her too....

then its routine again...she too falls for kevin eventually..then there is misunderstanding....but ultimately the lovebirds unite...so alls well that ends well ultimately :)

its a sweet feel good movie....james marden is a simply adorable who just makes ur heart melt with his smile....katherine heigl has acted well her part so has malin akerman...u jus hate the sight of her in the movie...

its a 2 hour movie..so u dont get bored at all...the pace of the movie too is just right...direction by anne fletcher is fine...dialogues r good...editing is good....u dont feel there r sequences which the movie cud have done without...

girls will surely love this movie.....its good use of two hours wen u feel like getting entertained....

this certainly is a fast movie....right from the first scene...there are many plus points...unpredictable twists and turns in the plot....good acting by all the actors...crisp dialogues...some of the dialogues r jus too good....comedy is a bit stupid....but u laugh anyways...good action...good cinematography....good editing...

negative points..chiefly one big negative point...too many songs..unnecessary songs...and the songs r not good too so cant listen to them..nor the dances r good so cant see them either....music by pritam goes below expectations....if u watching on the laptop u r better off fast forwarding all the songs....

set in south africa the plot is on the lines of two step brothers scheming against each other for the insurance money of 100 million dollars....the two brothers r ranvir (saif ali khan) and rajeev (akshaye khanna) who r in the buiesness of horse racing.....helping them in their plotting r the two ladies sofia (katrina kaif) ranvir's indespensible secretary who loves her boss and sonia (bipasha basu) an upcoming model with a criminal past who ranvir is about to propose.....dont exert your mind as to who is on whose side as they apparently keep switching sides in every other scene...anil kapoor is a fruit loving cop...and sameera reddy is his dumb assistant...both of them keep us entertained in the later half of the movie...

like a typical abbas mustan movie....there r exploding cars...fast cars....fast horses....hot babes....there is one big flaw in the plot which m not going to tell u coz it ll ruin the movie for u....
this is a story of greed, revenge ,betrayal which plots a brother against a brother...one plays to win another plays to defeat....one is right other one wrong.....and the right one wins the race ultimately :)

watch the movie once.....coz u wont have the time to think abt flaws in the plot...the second time i m sure u ll be busy searching flaws which i might just do one of these days ;)

kudos to Mr Ghai for making this movie...

wonderful concept.....end terrorism not terrorists...
very well directed...editing is crisp...acting is superb by all actors be it anil kapoor as a peace loving professor mathur...shefali shah as roma his outspoken bengali wife...or debutante anurag sinha as afghani terrorist numair kazi....
inspite of this being his first movie he has acted this difficult character very well....his character had to be strong jehadi intelligent silent terrorist...hardly had any dialogues but conveyed everything thru his expressions and body language

well the concept of movie...
it revolves around this guy who is from afghanistan...who has become a terrorist after his family died in the bomb blasts....he has come to india with a mission as suicide bomber and is supposed to blow up red fort on 15th aug.....
when he arrives in india he lives with a muslim family who r getting money from the terrorist groups.....as he stays in india he sees how other people r..how politicians for their own gain provoke people in the name of religion....how some people (like anil kapoor's character) maintain communal harmony...and see everyone equally and dont discriminate people on the basis of religion....seeing all this there is inner turmoil within him as to what is right and what is wrong...
still the junoon of being a terrorist is there and the thing that all non muslims are kafirs and have no right to survive in so well into his head that he does not abandon the mission easily....

also the fact that he sees himself as devout muslim and believes he is doing what is written in koran and will please allah is there...so wen a fellow muslim terrorist says he has had alcohol he kills him too...as his dialouge goes जो इस्लाम की इज्ज़त नही करता मैं उसकी इज्ज़त नही करता
there are a quite a few similar occasions..so he basically is a nice guy.....just circumstances and the environment have made him what he is....
and when he comes in contact with anil kapoor (which he hates initially as he is taking favour from a hindu person).....he starts seeing things differently....also what triggers him at last is the fact that roma who takes him as a brother is murdered by one of his fellow terrorists....

so at last in the end at the last moment he does not blow up the bomb.....the police try to kill him but he escapes as professor mathur stops the policeman from shooting...
so numair returns to his home alive a different individual....understands that he wud have gone against allah had he blown up the bomb and killed innocent....

different kind of movie...not typical...bit serious...but it has its light moments...wen they show roma and professor mathur teasing each other...songs which come in background are good...blend well with the movie...
watch it...you wont regret it....

i went for this movie despite mediocre movie review...and despite the frightening length of the movie of 3 and half hours....ya i know m a movie freak....

anyways abt the movie....
well the plot is not so simple...dont know how much was reality n how much fictional....
plot is king bharmal of amer doesnt wish to give the kingdom or a part of it to the son of his elder brother sujamal (played by sonu sood) who is elder n more deserving than his own son...this leads sujamal to seek help from other king to help overthrow king bharmal..

this other king happens to be akbar's brother in law who decides to help sujalmal only if after being crowned king sujamal will help him to overthrow akbar...

bharmal wants protection for his empire n so he proposes the marriage of his daughter jodhaa to akbar....
to strengthen the ties with rajputs emperor akbar agrees to marry jodha daughter of rajput king bharmal of amer....

well jodha is not happy abt the situation that her opinion is not asked in this matter n that the marriage is purely a political alliance...but for the sake of the people of her kingdom n ensure their protection she agrees to marry...provided her conditions r met with...they being she shd not be converted to islam n be allowed to follow her hindu traditions and a temple be made in palace for lord krishna...

obviously akbar agrees....after their wedding jodhaa refuses to let akbar near her as she doesnt love him....again akbar agrees....n so starts love story...love story is cute like any other love story where the guy n girl try to impress each other n try to make each other happy....
but life is not so simple....
the dai (who has raised akbar) is a possessive female and cant bear if anyone else becomes more important to him....not even jodhaa...so she creates misunderstanding between two...puts jodhaa in trap n akbar in his blind faith in dai sends jodhaa back to maika....

well the dai is caught quite easily n misunderstanding is resolved...but now akbar has to win jodha's love all over again....which he manages to do as he becomes a people's king....and makes amends in the policies to help common man....
but there is still trouble in paradise as akbar's brother in law tries to murder him so that he can rule over entire empire....
well now jodhaa nurses him back to health with her prayers n love...

then finally as all seems goin well there is final war with his brother in law which of course akbar wins...n alls well in paradise...on the way of course akbar's brother in law kills sujamal as he refuses to fight on his side...

a long story....
as for the actors......hrithik as akbar is good jus it takes some time to settle in...
ash too is good as jodhaa....sonu sood is good too...rest all actors also good...

good direction...but mistakes like child actors have black eyes shd have beem taken care of...many nice sequences (its a treat to watch hrithik's sword practice scene)...the one with elephant is also cool....nice romantic sequences too...nice choreography in the marhaba song....

cud have been edited quite a lot..cud have easily been a three hour movie...songs r too long...couple of them cud have been edited completely....war scenes too long...sword fight scenes too long..
LENGTH ....thats the only problem of the movie...

sets by nitin desai r grand..costumes r good...
movie appears nice colourful...
watch the movie for the grand splendor of moghul forts n palaces...leaves u wondering how it must have been in reality...to know the lifestyle of the royals...

at the core of it this is a simple love story of a man and a woman who r bound to each other and finally fall in love with each other n make their marriage work despite all odds

GO FOR IT if u have enough free time....

u will keep laughing thru out the movie at both the comedy and horror of the movie
as for the actors akshay kumar is too good...shiney ahuja is cool as prince (looks like a prince too).. paresh rawal is good...rajpal yadav is wasted in his role as pujari..vidya balan is ok ok....
for a while the story keeps u guessing about who wud be the main culprit n why whatever is happening is happening...
but when the story unfolds it disappoints u....its jus not gripping enough to retain your interest
unnecessary placement of songs jus for the sake of putting some songs...
ok for once watch if u have nothing better to do...

go to see this movie if u love dhak dhak girl n miss her on screen presence...
she is too good...jus as in good old days...i dont have to say but great dances....
her screen presence is too good...she is there in practically every frame but u jus dont get tired of her...she is a feast to eyes...her dialogues her smile her dances..everything is a feast after a long long time....
yes she looks 42 yrs old...she looks like mother of two...but thats what she is isnt it...
she doesnt need to look like a girl in her twenties wen she is not....

well abt the movie...story is a bit run of mill...not really new story...but dialogues by jaideep sahni (of chak de fame) r funny.... how NRIs behave wen they come to india after a long time is shown perfectly ...

madhuri is well supported by her co actors vinay pathak (loved him in boring govt professor role)..konkona sen sharma (tom boy), kunal kapoor (gunda) ,ranvir shorey ,divya dutta,irfan khan, jugal hansraj (plays gujju stock broker) ,the girl who played her daughter n of course last but not least akshaye khanna....

direction is fine...not something really great but doesnt make u feel as if there r major blunders except one...madhuri's ward robe cud have been much better...some of her clothes were outright silly...dances were choreographed by vaibhavi merchant..she needs a mention for a job well done..
loved the laila majnu musical...beautiful words..n beautiful everything..

the length of the movie is jus fine...u dont get bored or feel wen is it gonna get over...

over all a good fun filled family entertainer...

jus wanna say watch KARZ rather than watching its remake....
end is stolen from MADHUMATI...if u have seen it Vaijantimala n dilip kumar movie black n white one...

this movie doesnt live upto its hype created...
also farah khan didnt live upto the expectations...Main Hoon Na was much more entertaining movie than Om Shanti Om..

On the plus side..if u want to go to watch this movie no matter what..

Shahrukh Khans performance in first half is lovely...he acts his part well...
deepika looks nice..shreyas talpade is cute....
one nice lovely romantic song
nice presentation in first half...its entertaining the way they have superimposed new videos on old ones so that it seems deepika is actually dancing with sunil dutt ,rajesh khanna etc
overall the extra masaledar 70s style is good....
the 31 stars song is fun watch...so is dard e disco even though it does seem out of place

On the negative side:

movie feels long..
too many repetitions of dialogues
very predictable as it is scene to scene copy of Karz n Madhumati

pl do something original farah next time.....

very frankly speaking i didnt want to see this movie...i thought the movie would be focussed on bringing down a great man how he failed as a father....n sympathising with his son..and how he suffered etc etc...i saw this movie coz my mom wanted to..n well i have to admit i was in for a surprise...

first of all i wanna say brilliant acting by akshaye khanna as harilal gandhi darshan jarivala as mahatma gandhi n shefali shah as kasturba gandhi...

everyone is good in movie but the main characters stand out..

n as the story goes...let me say i feel the director has just shown incidences n facts in front of the audience..given a very neutral view..jus as maybe is written in biography....

no negative things abt mahatma gandhi was spoken...

n of course many of the father to son dialogues touch your heart....the way a father wants to reach out to his son...show his son his love...n constant hurt for not being able to convince his son...

n of course u feel for the son too...who is a nice person..but is over burdened by the name he carries...by the responsibilty the name carries...n the frustration for being unable to live upto it.....he is used by others....n he is just victim of his circumstance...n of course there is a factor that his father doesnt understand his dream his wishes....coz the father thinks he knows wats the best for his son..or what wud suit his son better...or at least the father thinks so

this leads to disharmony between them....it is story of many families...just we dont know the story coz they dont have the illustrous name GANDHI

watch movie for acting...n heart touching moments in the story of this one particular father n his son...

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF PHOENIX....

could not wait to see the movie in english..so saw it in hindi in vasai only....what do i say...for the first time i feel the movie has surpassed the book...i dont know about others but the fifth book is not my favourite HP books...so i wasnt even too eager to see it....as in this book i feel the story doesnt move forward....also sirius dies....n nothing really happens..i mean order of phoenix is not so strong nor anything good happens....also parts abt cho n harry's love story n some other parts r outright boring..

but hey i m supposed to tell abt movie...

so well the movie is fabulous....excellent editing...n mixing of various sequences...so presentation is too good....the dumbledore's army part is excellent.....so is the umbridge....u really hate her....friendship between harry ron hermione is shown well......fred n george r cool as usual....grawp is cute....u fall in love with hagrids brother immediately....lots of stuff is covered as news in daily prophet....thats cool...nice way to take the story forward.....n the last fight in the ministry is wonderfully shot....the entire sequence is too good....must watch for all harry potter lovers...n all movie lovers too....extremely entertaining movie..

things u miss....quidditch...well there is no match in this movie....well the OWL exams were interesting to read in book which was not shown...also the part that ron n hermione r prefects...they dont show that too.....thankfully harrys n cho love story..their fights etc is cut off....also kreecher's part is cut off...so v really dont know if u have not read the book what he is saying n why.....also they have shown fred n george trying their products...but that cud have been elaborated on....the galleon thing in DA is cut off....n god knows why did they have to show cho as culprit in DA's getting caught....poor thing...n everyone hates her then....i guess thats it...at least i cant think of anything else....lemme know if i have missed out....GREAT MOVIE MR YATES.....THANK YOU

this is one of the movies i really liked.....amitabh's look in the movie is gr8....n of course i dont have to say that he enacted the role of a egoistical bachelor cum chef extremely well....who cant take it when others point out his mistake or find fault with him or his food...
the chemistry between amitabh n tabu was great....
the way he goes out of his way to impress her but doesnt admit it etc etc is shown well...
the kid was gr8 too...
but i thought the 1st half was better than the second half...expected it to be more hilarious..given the fact paresh rawal's presence...felt he was under utilized...
even though it deals with an older man n younger woman romance it is nothing like nishabd....the two movies r not comparable...
still gr8 songs...good editing...good dialogues...all in all a must watch at least once...one of the sweet n funny romance...

i was really expecting the second umrao jaan to be a great movie considering the director J P Dutta whose two movies border n refugee i have liked a lot...also was expection was raised knowing the star cast...was looking forward to see this movie n see abhishek as nawab n ash as umrao jaan....

but of course it didnt stand upto my expection....but mostly coz of change in storydone by JP Dutta....i know the changes coz so eager i was to know wat umrao jaan was n what the hype was abt that i actually went n got cd of the movie n saw the movie wit rekha as umrao jaan....

well the failure of the new umrao jaan only consolidates the fact the story is the most important part of film making..not the actors n the producer (by that i mean not how much money put into it) nor the director......only if the story is good will the movie succeed

cause of failure:
here i bring to u the changes made in new movie wrt wat it was in old movie...i too dont know the actual story as i have not read the book...

firstly the greatest negative is that there r no ironies in the new movie...it jus deals with the same old tragedy of an innocent girl who becomes a prostitute.....well v all know the sad story....nothing new abt it..

differences in old n new movie:
old movie:
1) the man who kidnaps her has kidnapped one more girl too...the other girl is not a very good looking girl....he takes them both to some nawabs home n asks the wife too buy them both n keep them as servants....well she says she needs only 1 maid not two..also he asks more money for the amiran (umrao jaans childhood name) as she is pretty..so the nawabs wife refuses to take her saying she doesnt need the beautiful girl for a maid the not so good looking girl wud do...n so finally she keeps other female n the guy takes her to a brothel..
thus 1st irony :her beauty works against her...coz of her beauty she lands up in a whore house otherwise she wud have been taken as maid which is not as bad as becoming a prostitute...
well this whole sequence is cut out from the new movie...in the new one the man directly takes her to a brothel...

2)she does try to run away..but gets caught n then she is beaten..n then she is kept tied...
in new one...she tries to run...but the care taker catches her n then tempts her with fineries..n she gets tempted n forgets her family as she comes from a poor family n has not seen such things.....

3)in the old movie....she is a famous prostitute before abhisheks character (played by farooq shaikh) meets her...in fact he hears her singing n is enchanted by her voice first...but he being a good guy doesnt go to the brothel...later on when he hears so much abt her beauty too goes to see her n falls for her

in the new one....she is so called introduced in some mehfil..where all nawabs r supposed to have gathered n abhishek sees her there n falls for her..(weak first meeting sequence)

4) second irony..once rekha n other girls have gone for a picnic....she is supposed to meet farooq shaikh there....other girls r playing..some dacoits come n kidnap one of the girls...well as fate wud have it...this girl is rescued by some king n he marries her...(in the movie of course this is shown in two parts...wen rekha has lost her way in jungle she ends up in this girls kingdom n they meet..till then everyone thought the girls dead....well so the irony being had she been there playing n not wit farooq shaikh she wud have been kidnapped n later married the king...also the irony being her nawab leaves her but this king marries the girl even though she is a prostitute..) this entire sequence is absent in new movie..a vital one i believe to reach out to audience
5)old movie: well farooq shaikh's parents r divorced...n they had this pact that farooq will marry his fathers daughter..now obviously faroq's mother doesnt want that to happen...so she just takes a vow that i will marry my daughter to anyone but ur sisters daughter..if need arises even to the maid of my home... well n on the other side..farooq is shown to be in love wit rekha n all but she doesnt have courage to ask him to marry her...n he doesnt commit anything..rekha also tells him once u shd listen to ur mom i think...n he is under his moms thumb...n he doesnt have courage to tell his mom that loves a prostitute...

thus the third irony: she loses her lover...who marries the maid of the house jus to please his mother...n well no prizes for guessing who the maid is..she is none other than the other girl who was kidnapped along with umrao jaan..so even though they were both kidnapped by the same person....the girl became a maid n later the wife of a nawab due to lack of good looks n umrao jaan is again thrashed by destiny...

in the new one: well abhishek announces his love for umrao jaan..his father disapproves...abhi fights back...father disowns him...so the nawab becomes penniless..umrao's khala insults him n throws him out of her kotha...ash asks him take her wit him..but he like an idiot tells her he has to earn a living for them both n lets her live in the hell...n tells her to be faithful to him else he will leave her.....(i dont know what kind of an idiot is he shown..doesnt he know whats expected of a prostitute n doesnt he know people might force her against her wishes..wat kind of a man lets the woman he loves live in such a hell hole)...n after that he is not shown doing anything that might suggest he being productive...he jus goes to his uncles home..n does time pass i guess..while umrao is facing all the music

6)old movie : well now rekha is alone n lonely..this dacoit comes...enacted by raj babbar...he had expressed interest in her n asked her to go wit him....earlier she had refused..but now bein without any aim she asks him to take her wit him n he does....well on the way..dacoits of the other gang come n kill him...so again she loses someone who truely cared for her n loved her.....
in the new movie: sunil shetty comes dressed as nawab...ash refuses to sleep with him..he kind of rapes her...n then she comes to know where abhishek is so she acts as if she is interested in sunil shetty n asks him to take her...sunil shetty gets caught by soldjers..seeing abhishek there adds 1 n 1...tells abhi ash was unfaithful..n abhi sends ash back without even listening to her...(sad but the sanctity of love is lost here...raj babbars character is so dignified u actually feel bad that he gets killed n rekha is alone...that definately tugs ur heart more than suniel saying ash was unfaithful n abhi sending her back..i mean wat kind of love did he have for her that he believes a dacoit n doesnt even let her talk...wat kind of a judge of character is he....i feel umrao is definately better off alone rather than being with such a person.....)

7)lastly..in old one umraos mother accepts her but she is too weak to fight her son who insults umrao n sends her back

new one....the mother herself insults her.....i mean what kind of a mother wud do that....

there r some more differences too like ash was raped by puru raj kumars character there was no need of that but jus put to create sympathy....but the tragedies ash had to go thru did tug the heart the way rekha's story did...

these were the twists in story of rekha's umrao jaan which made umrao jaan a bigger tragedy..different from other tragedies...

dhoom Vs dhoom 2

this is one of the first of my post of my new movie comparison series.....lemme tell u guys something...i dont sit n dwell on it..this come to me spontaneously coz of my love for movies...as i see a movie my mind automatically starts comparing if its s sequel or its based on a book or if its a remake...n if its none of the above..my mind starts working abt whats good in this movie (if its a nice movie)...or what sets it apart from the rest....n if its a bad movie..whats bad abt it...or wat can be done so that it cud be a better movie....this comes to me naturally.....n as it keeps on going round n round my head i have decided to pen in down (in this case type it down)

Dhoom Vs Dhoom 2

both these movies made good money...dhoom 2 more than dhoom....but as far as i m concerned...i believe dhoom was a much better movie than its sequel...

my reasons :dhoom.... it was a new concept...it was first of its kind....it practically had no stars...it made the actors stars..dhoom was abhisheks n john's first hit movie....good story good direction...nice action sequence..good songs...good comedy..loved uday chopra in the movie...comedy between rimi n uday too is nice....esha too looked nice...bike sequences were well shot...great dialogues....loved the conversations between john n abhishek...both on phone n in casino in end....abhishek actually does some policemangiri when he gets hold of bike...his role is not wasted in this movie...rimi sen too is good...i mean her role too is well done...all in all a well made movie

well dhoom 2 :GREAT star cast...HRITHIK ASH BIPASHA ABHISHEK UDAY CHOPRA....i did think wud any of these people been associated with dhoom 2 had the first movie not been a smashing hit

at the end of movie i wondered wat exactly was bipasha doing in the movie...wen the movie wud have been same without her too..other than showing off her great body..she had no role....

hrithik did steal the show...with his brilliant dancing n acting...but u cant hang a guy for being so good than even the good appear mediocre...n another question popped up my head now...was there a show to steal
well there was nothing great in story...n it wasnt even as if it was one of the best perfomances by the rest of the cast...well they all have movies where they have acted wonderfully...i dont think dhoom 2 is gonna feature in hall of fame of any of the cast except HRITHIK....

ASH didnt get into the skin of the role she was enacting....my guess is she was supposed to get the LARA CROFT kind of a look...well she did try..her body language her running style etc did get close to it....but she didnt get thru it in her dialogue delivery....it was a different style..but she didnt sound the cool n rough n tough image she was trying to get...

abhishek....well m not comparing his dancing abilities or his physique with hrithik coz they jus cant be compared...but his role cud have been better as it was in dhoom 1....they cud have done something i m sure to make jai dixit appear formidable as against aryan...here there was no competition...everyone knew jai was jus no match for MR A...

uday too sadly didnt carry his character well forward...

songs.....pathetic......pl cant even listen to my name is ali and touch me dont touch me soniya.....

i dont know whom to fault....director or the actor....i asked myself is he the same guy who made dhoom...

action sequences are jus put for the heck of it....thanks to computers....most of the movie i guess is done on computer only....for no reason at all things r exploding...there r chases going on...well there should have been some continuity in action sequence...1 second u show hrithik going down the drain..n in next scene he comes out of fire hydrant ? were the drain n hydrant inter connected mr director...

on the plus side the title track n diljale rocked..but m afraid thats just thanks to hrithik..a sight for sore eyes in this movie

when u make dhoom 3 hope u make the movie comparable to your first if not better than that Mr Gadhvi

spiderman 3

what i liked :
1 the way tobey maguire acted as the bad spiderman
2 the moral : what he says in the end u always can choose between right n wrong...n its in ur hand to choose the right...
3 the special effects

what i didnt like:
very routine predictable run of the mill story n suspense....

this is an ok ok movie...not that gr8 at all....not whats expected from saif n rani...still there r few points which r shown very beautifully in this movie....i liked the way they show the transition the family takes when they go bankrupt...there is no grumbling or fighting or name calling or pointing fingers at each other...i mean they go bankrupt n it is saif's fault largely...but rani takes it in stride....she has seen happy times with him n is perfectly fine to go along in bad time...she doesnt even get angry with her husband for a second coz of whom they r in such position....she doesnt show reluctance to work...she is willing to give him a second chance....encourages him when he is low....wonderful characterisation of rani...saif's character not too bad either...loves rani unconditionally.. helpful..he too peps her up...he feels bad abt her abt her facing all the difficulties but he is not in a position to do anything much...he is pretty helpless abt their dire state....n their love is shown to be jus the same...thats so nice...the only time she gets bugged is when he lies abt his daughters health....children acted well like all the child actors do...all in all i liked the spirit of the movie....of course v gotta overlook obvious flaws
1.didnt he have finance managin company...he is such a famous driver...when he has made so much money...how the hell can he go bankrupt....
2.songs r really bad...wish they were a bit peppy...n there r too many songs...n v knew he is gonna win the crucial race in the end..with his cabbie crew :)
had this been a two hr movie with few less songs..it wud have been gr8

anyways a good concept....very nice moral...n a feel good movie...one time watch
